In response to the pressing issue of limited access to sustainable energy sources in the southern region of Libya, a region that has been grappling with a scarcity of reliable electricity and fuel to power generators,
Through “SHAMS” project, we were able in the past months to support the services of twelve health facilities in southern Libya, where the Organization of Development Pioneers (ODP), in partnership with Helpcode and with the fund of AICS, supplied and installed solar energy systems for twelve facilities in southern Libya, including 10 dialysis facilities in eleven municipalities in southern Libya as follows:
1. Dialysis unit at Murzuq general hospital.
2. Dialysis unit at Al-Afiyah Hospital, Hun – Al-Jufrah.
3. Dialysis unit at Ghat General Hospital
4. Dialysis unit at Awbari General Hospital
5. Dialysis unit at Samnu village Hospital (Albawanees)
6. Dialysis unit at Brak Al-Shati General Hospital
7. Traghen Dialysis Centre
8. Al-Tanahama Dialysis Centre (Bent Baya)
9. Sabha oncology centre,
10. Sabha Medical Storage
11. Al gatrun Dialysis Centre
12. Sebha dialysis services centre
Beneficiaries, including IDPs and migrants, were empowered to access continuous and sustainable health services within the targeted health facilities from a sustainable source of electricity via solar energy systems with an operating capacity of up to 35 kilowatts, allowing dialysis patients to complete their daily sessions and benefit from health services in the southern regions without having to travel long distances.
